An odd question to get, I know, but I found myself saying, “My goal as a physician is to reach out to my patients and not just be their doctor but to be remembered as someone having made a positive impact on their lives.”  However, in today’s managed-care environment, a doctor’s time with patients becomes limited and the chance to develop long-term relationships becomes difficult. &lt;br/&gt;In the past, I have donated money to charities but have not donated my time. This changed in the summer of 2008, when I learned about the charitable organisation Tiger Foundation and its efforts in Cambodia. It dawned on me that this could be an opportunity to have a lasting influence on others. I joined the Foundation on one of its projects to improve the Aknuwat Primary School in Kampong Thom, Cambodia, and was named the health liaison officer. The school caters to many children, who come from disadvantaged homes where poverty and abuse are rampant. As its sole physician recruit, my role was to find an avenue to enrich the health of these children as well as their surrounding community. I found it very tough coming from a developed country like the US and working in Singapore to see life in such a different way...</description>
